What is on-page optimization?
On-page optimization pertains to all the optimization work that you do within your website. It is concerned with factors like descriptions, meta tags, page titles, and internal links. Through on-page optimization, you won’t just be able to push your pages up Google’s SERPS—you can also make your website more pleasant for potential customers browsing it.
What advanced on-page optimization tips should I keep in mind?
You probably already have an idea of how basic on-page optimization is done, but if you want to take your website to the next level, be sure to look into these:
- Use SEO-friendly permalink URLs. Keep the URL of your pages short and keyword rich, and avoid unattractive URLs. Google itself has declared that the first three to five words in a URL are more valuable.
- Use keywords in titles. The title tag is one of the most crucial on-page optimization elements. A study conducted by Moz found that pages with titles that begin with a keyword ranked higher than titles that put the keyword at the end or in the middle.
- Fix your outbound links. Optimize your outbound links to give your visitors better navigation. Integrate appropriate keywords in the anchor text to give your links value and meaning.
- Try a multimedia approach. Your content can be hundred times more likely to engage your audiences if it comes with pictures, diagrams, and videos. A multimedia approach increases the time users spend on your website while reducing bounce rate. These factors are crucial when Google assesses how users interact with your website.
- Ensure keyword presence in the first 100 words of the content. Don’t make your introductions too long. In on-page optimization, it is important for keywords to appear in the first 100 to 150 words of your content.
- Use appropriate tags. The H1 tag is one of the most important tags you could use in the titles of your posts. With proper keyword presence, you should be able to create a title that can attract the attention of search engines.
- Improve your loading speed. The time it takes for a page to load is a factor that Google considers when determining the page’s worthiness to be ranked higher in search results pages. Consider boosting your speed by compressing images, investing in a more reliable and faster hosting service, or using a CDN. A fast page should be able to load in four seconds or less.
- Long content is king, so give it priority. A study found that longer content tends to rank significantly higher in search engines. If you are targeting competitive keywords, consider aiming for at least 1,500 words in your content.
- Set up social media sharing buttons. Social signals are given a lot of weight by search engine algorithms, so make sure that your users have an easy way to share your content in their Facebook, Twitter, and other social media accounts.
